Motorcyclists from all over the country organised a 'slow-ride' fuel protest in Manchester, which took place earlier today.

The ride, which was organised by motorcycle clubs from Greater Manchester saw the motorcylists meet at Birch services on the M62 between junctions 18 and 19. The ride then continued into Salford, Manchester and delayed rush hour traffic. A journey of 17 miles.

As well as motorcyclists some lorry drivers and taxi drivers also joined in with the protest. The Police and local council tried to hold talks with the organisers to stop the event, but word of mouth had spread the news and they were unable to do anything.

The police instead tried to manage the protest to cause as little disruption as possible.
