The 900cc FireBlade’s biggest revamp came for 2000 and it was tweaked again in `02. It features LED tail lights, new instruments, a ‘works-style’ swingarm  and a slightly sharper fairing. It wasn’t quite as hot as its rivals though.

Conrod failure is not unheard of on bikes that get revved very hard. Can be susceptible to occasional gearbox problems.

Rating: 4 out of 5
Arguably the tamest Honda CBR900RR FireBlade but it’s still extremely fast on the road or track. Strong brakes.

Rating: 3 out of 5
The fuel injection is snatchy. Gearbox can be troublesome.

All the basics are there plus it has underseat storage. HISS key-based immobilizer system – lose both keys and you’ll face an £800+ bill.

Rating: 4 out of 5
It’s not going to disappoint but there are much better Blades both before and after.

Rating: 4 out of 5
Haggle hard and this is a good value bike – just this wasn’t the finest Blade.

FOR: Strong brakes, comfortable, good handling
AGAINST: Gearbox problems, a bit snatchy 3/5
