Thinking of buying a second-hand 2000-2001 Yamaha Drag Star 1100? Then look no further than our buying guide for all the advice you’ll need.

We’ve cast our expert eye over the machine and can give you a heads-up on what to be looking for when buying a used Drag Star 1100.

OVERVIEW
Evolution of Yamaha’s long running XV1100 Virago is somewhat old tech but light weight and manageability are always useful.

CHECK
Reliability is pretty good. Although engine dates back to early 80s problems are rare. Corrosion is the big enemy.

RIDE & HANDLING
Rating: 3 out of 5
Steering is light and easy although shocks are a little harsh and can make the rear skip about. Brakes are competent.

ENGINE
Rating: 3 out of 5
Just 62bhp, though torque is a more respectable 63ftlb. So OK around town but speed means revs – and some vibes.

EQUIPMENT
Rating: 3 out of 5
Poor headlight, pillion and mirrors but otherwise all the basics are there. Shaft works well and is low maintenance.

OWNING
Rating: 3 out of 5
Fuss-free Japanese cruising, but although once considered a heavyweight it’s now dwarfed by the 1800s and bigger.

VALUE
Rating: 3 out of 5
Expensive when new, but it can’t hold value as well as a Harley, residuals are strong as the Star range has quite a following.
