It's a relative newcomer, but Kawasaki's small, slender middleweight has won many fans, proving that novice-friendly middleweights don't have to be dull. Its quirky looks now seem mainstream- but the performance of that ZX-12R-derived parallel twin is hardy run of the mill.
The 649cc motor is essentially half the engine of Kawasaki's inline four hypersports bike and it still has plenty of low-down pull. The handling is light, precise and rewarding.
We've heard of a few bikes overheating easily due to faulty thermostats, so when checking a bike, let it idle for a bit to see if the temperature warning light comes on. Rear suspension preload adjusters have a tendancy to seize if they're not kept clean.
