Used price: £1,000-£3,070
Engine: 4v 659cc single cylinder, 5 gears
Power: 50bhp
Top speed: 112mph
Weight: 170kg

The Aprilia Pegaso may look a bit off-road, but its a street supermoto, ideally suited to life on tarmac - specifically crowded city streets. It's easy to ride with Italian style, a low seat and great brakes. Perfect for the urban commute.

The Pegaso's engine is actually a Yamaha unit - it's the same big single that powers the Yamaha XT660X and Yamaha MT-03. It's grunty and fun, but the fuel injection is a little jumpy, which is not what you want around town. It also gets a bit buzzy at high speed. It's not an engine designed for A roads, but fun on tight backlanes.

The riding position is upright and the big bars make turning easy. That combined with stonking Brembo brakes and light handling make it a great bike for dicing through traffic.

The Pegaso also has a few tricks up its sleeve, like a glove box on top of the tank (see pic), decent underseat storage and a dash showing everything from lap times to battery charge and fuel gauge.

Reliabilty will be good from the proven Yamaha 660cc lump and dealer/parts back-up from Aprilia is improving and no longer a problem. When buying try to budget for a power commander to sort out the fueling.
