Insurance advice: Make sure it suits you

For a lot of bikers, sorting out insurance is a pain, but it's something that has to be done, so you might as well do it right.
Here's a few quick tips to help make sure you get the best insurance for you.
- Read the small print
It might sound obvious, but make sure you do it. If you only ever use your bike for commuting 10 miles to work everyday then you're not going to be too bothered about insurance cover outside the UK.
- How much excess can you pay?
The more voluntary excess you can pay, the cheaper you're quote will be. But don't just quote a stupidly high number. Make sure you'll actually be able to come up with the money should you need to.
- Use the phone for the best quote
The internet is good for getting a rough idea of prices, but it's best to ring the company and talk to a human. There's only a certain amount of answers the internet will accept.
This can be a tricky one if you're not sure of your annual mileage. If you're a 'Weekend Warrior' then try to bring your annual mileage down to a couple of thousand. The less time you're on the road the less likely you are to crash.
- Tell the truth
Another obvious one. But never be tempted to lie or bend the truth. If you need to make a claim that bit of information that's not entirely true could come back to bite you.
