Motorcycle insurance bargains: Kawasaki Z750

Motorcycle insurance costs are an important consideration for any bike buyer. That's why MCN is highlighting some of the best cheap-to-insure motorcycles out there. This time it's the Kawasaki Z750.

Insurance group: 13
Engine: 16v in-line four, 6 gears
Power: 100bhp
Top speed: 138mph
Weight: 195kg

The Kawasaki Z750 simply hammered its rivals of the time in the naked sector with a genuine 100 back wheel bee-aitch-pees, which it marries to insane looks and an addictive personality that echo its bigger, madder Z1000 brother. Plus it's only group 13 to insure.

With the Z750 you get a lot of bang for your buck. It's 748cc DOHC in-line four makes 20bhp more than Honda’s Hornet 600, 13bhp more than Yamaha’s FZ6 and 30 more than Suzuki’s SV650.

It's let down slightly by the handling though - the unadjustable front’s too soft and the rear is too harsh – and twiddling the shock’s four-step rebound adjustment makes next to no difference. Budget for a trip to Maxton.

When buying used look for examples with the optional official flyscreen fitted – it’s not obtrusive and it makes a huge difference to distance comfort.
