Used price: £1,200-£3,650
Engine: 865cc parallel twin, 5 gears
Power: 63bhp
Top speed: 112mph
Weight: 205kg

The Triumph Bonneville was aimed straight at the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883. It provides the same friendly and stylish retro riding experience with just as much heritage behind the tank badge, only with added performance.

The Bonneville's lazy parallel twin motor, up from 790cc to 865cc in 2005, is great for chugging along on a Sunday. It pulls well enough for what it is, but works better with the added mid-range thast comes from fitting the factory aftermarket noisy pipes.

The low seat and nicely positioned bars make the Bonneville a great place to be sit. The handling and brakes work sweetly at sensible speeds, but brakes need a good squeeze compared to more focused machinery.

The T100 version of the Bonneville benefits from a tacho, rubber knee-pads on the tank and a two-tone paint job, but there's tons of other accessories available, so you cna really make a Bonnie your own.

The finish can go off pretty fast if you don't stick to a rigorous cleaning schedule. There have also been reports of front wheel problems, so check before buying. They're cheap to buy and run, tend to live gentle plodding lives and depreciate little.
