Used price: £1,340 - £3,300
Engine: 4v V-twin, 6 gears
Power: 63bhp
Top speed: 125mph
Weight: 168kg

The selling point of the baby Monster is clear - its a cheap and fun way into the wonderful and glamorous world of Ducati ownership. It's small, easy to handle and greta for beginners, plus the Ducati badge gives a little extra pride of ownership.

The Monster 620's air-cooled v-twin motor offers a useful 9bhp more than the the older Monster 600. It makes power low down the rev range so its very usable and handy for beginners, but more experienced rider may find it a bit under-powered. Sounds great though.

The handling is sweet too - its not sportsbike quick, but it is a joy to throw around. If you do push it the limit is ground clearance. But on the flip side it's low and light, making it great for shorter riders.

The style of the Monster leans towards minimalism, so don't expect a lot of extras. There's no fuel gauge (just a warnign light). There are tons of extras to choose from though, so with carbon fibre body work and performance upgrades you can really make the bike your own.

When buying, be aware that Ducatis of this era can suffer from electronic faults. Look for a well cared for example and don't rely on the fuel warning light to stop you from running dry. Parts are expensive too and you can get better bikes for less. But they don't have the Ducati badge...
