Used price: £2,600 - £8,000
Engine: 8v 998cc v-twin, 6 gears
Power: 116bhp
Top speed: 155mph
Weight: 180kg

The Aprilia Tuono is the naked version of the Aprilia RSV1000, but unlike other manufacturers Aprilia chose not to detune the engine, so you get full superbike performance with a more practical upright riding position. Perfect for wheelies.

The riding position annd attitude is pure streetfighter. Wide bars give you leverage to chuck it around backroads, but the suspension on the base model isn't quite up to the task when pushed hard. If you can, opt for the Factory version which boasts Ohlins suspension, OZ wheels and tasty carbon fibre bits.

The engine is a madman with bags of torque and enough power to easily surprise badly-ridden sportsbikes. Easy wheelies are just a swift twist away.

The Tuono look isn't to everyones taste, but if you want to stand out from the crowd there's not much else that will do it with such style. A nice bonus is that the Tuono comes with crash bungs fitted from the factory to help keep it looking tidy if things go pear-shaped.

The big RSV motor is famously reliable, but the Tuono is still a piece of Italian exotic and needs a little care and attention to keep corrosion at bay. Service intervals are 4500 miles. Check tyres and chain when buying.
