First time bikes for tall riders

Q. I am due to take the Direct Access Scheme and test in a couple of weeks. Once I pass, I am looking to buy an all-rounder middleweight.

However, being a tall bloke - 6'4", I would prefer a bike that is comfortable for someone above average height.

From my research, I have narrowed my shortlist to the Kawasaki Versys, Yamaha FZ6 Fazer, and Suzuki DL650 V-Strom. In your opinion which of these would you recommend for a new, tall rider?

A. Neevesy, our senior road tester here, reckons you should steer clear of the Fazer, as it's not that learner-friendly on account of the fact you have to “scream the living Jesus out of the engine to get anywhere” - it's not particularly roomy either.

The V-Strom and Versys are good choices as they're both easy to ride and have punchy, but friendly engines.

The Kawasaki is slightly more nimble, faster and more fun, where the Suzuki is physically bigger, sturdier and dependable.

If I were doing big mileage I'd choose the V-Strom, but for shorter, fun journeys the Versys would be the one for me.
