UK bikers and drivers are paying out one £60 fixed penalty after being caught by speed cameras every 15 seconds.This news is according to new statistics from Speed Camera Partnerships. Income from cameras reached £114 million last year, and nearly two million people were caught.

The Scottish Borders Safety Camera Partnership is considering installing more cameras - to protect the cameras they already have! CCTV cameras are one of the measures being considered to protect speed cameras in Berwickshire which have been targets of vandalism on several occasions.

Speed limiters survey

A survey of 500 road users has shown that many people believe fitting speed restrictors to young driver’s cars would improve road safety. Sixty per cent believe such a device would reduce young driver accident statistics. Sixty-one per cent also believe the minimum driving age should rise to 18, opposing recent DFT plans to introduce on-road driving lessons for 16-year-olds.

Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club, which encourages responsible bike riding, has been put on stand-by after the programme co-ordinator quit last week. The award-winning club was looking for a new site to continue their work to encourage safer riding.But Dave Paton said the lack of progress with the project has forced him to throw in the towel.
