‘Careless’ driving kills motorcyclist

A motorist who fell asleep at the wheel and killed a biker has been cleared of dangerous driving and convicted of lesser charges of careless driving by Swansea Crown Court. Andrew Peter Drage, 45, was fined £700 and banned for 12 months after killing motorcyclist Raymond Lacey Freeman, 55.

£5m in fines for speeding through roadworks

UK motorists paid more than £5m in fines last year for speeding through motorway roadworks according to a recent survey. The M2 in Kent caught the most drivers, a total of 16,978. Paul Smith of Safe Speed said: “These figures are an outrage. The best science we have says that speed cameras increase crashes and crash severity in motorway roadworks.”

McGregor jacket raises £2600

A jacket worn by Ewan McGregor on his documented Long Way Round journey was sold at auction last month for £2600. The auction was held by Edinburgh University to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Students Supporting Street Kids charity.

Close call for biker

A motorcyclist in Peel on the Isle of Man had a lucky escape last week after a passing lorry pulled down two electricity poles overhead. Eyewitnesses said the biker was caught between the two poles as they fell to the ground on Mill Road, but got up and carried on unhurt.

Police recover two Napoli BMW’s

Police have seized two of the four BMW motorcycles taken from the wreckage of the MSC Napoli in January that were not reported to the Receiver of Wreck. The F800’s were found near Axminster in east Devon last week, however no arrests have been made.
