The faster you speed, the higher the fine

A sliding scale of speeding fines depending on how far over the limit you are is to be pursued by ministers. Riders caught greatly exceeding the speed limit on their motorcycle would face charges as high as £100 and six penalty points. The consultation on the changes will launch this autumn according to the DFT.

Fireman biker head-butts 60-year-old

A fireman from Chichester has been sentenced for head-butting a 60-year-old man while still wearing his motorcycle helmet in a road rage incident. Nuisance biker crackdown success

Police in Northamptonshire claim to have affectively reduced the number of incidents involving antisocial motorcycle usage in a county known as a hotspot for the issue. Since April 2007, the Safer Community Team has seen a 70 per cent decrease in the number of antisocial biking incidents thanks to frequent patrols of the popular nuisance motorcyclist regions.

IAM call for barrier change

Motorcyclists are 30 times more likely to be killed in an accident than those in cars, and 15 per cent of these accidents, according to the IAM Motoring Trust, are due to roadside crash barriers. IAM director Neil Greig said, “It is irrational and unacceptable that roadside barriers, which prevent deaths and injuries to thousands of car occupants, kill motorcyclists.”
