BikeSafe encouraging young riders to kit-up

Meeting over motorcycle fatalities

In the next few weeks, council road safety officers and emergency services are set to have a meeting in Staffordshire. The meeting is regarding the number of fatal accidents involving motorcyclists throughout the county. The meeting also looks at educating motorcyclists under the age of 25. 15 motorcyclists lost their lives last year in the county.

Motorcycle Rider Training weekend to promote new motorcycle test

Austrian motorcyclist impaled by cow

A 28-year-old Austrian motorcyclist is critically ill in hospital after colliding with a cow in St Agatha near Salzburg. The biker hit the cow when it was standing in the middle of the road and was impaled on its horns.

Police appeal for bike crash witnesses

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal bike crash to come forward. The incident happened in the evening of May 29, at the junction of Blackhorse Road and Brookwood Lye Road in Brookwood. Call Surrey police on 0845 125 2222.

Council invites nominations for worst roads

Councillors in Portishead in north Somerset are asking local residents to nominate the most dangerous and under-maintained roads in the town. Leaflets are being distributed to residents with details of how to make a nomination. The move follows a pledge by the newly Conservative-run council to spend millions of pounds on road improvements.

Thieves cause danger by stealing drain grates

Motorcyclists are being put in serious danger in East Sussex by a group who are stealing metal grates from drains. Approximately 70 grates have been stolen so far and Sussex Council is calling for motorcyclists to keep an eye on the road. If you see an exposed drain or anyone stealing one, contact East Sussex Highways on 08456-080193.

Boy arrested after coppers' bikes were set on fire

A twelve-year-old boy has been arrested in Gibraltar, in connection with a fire which destroyed two motorcycles owned by a police officer. The fire took place in an underground car park in Harbour Views, but enquiries have ruled out a premeditated attack.

£500 for taking biker's leg

A motorist who caused an accident with a motorcyclist resulting in the biker losing one of his legs has been fined £500. Barry Coatesworth, 34, admitted to driving without due care and attention when he ran through a ‘Stop’ sign in Haggate, Lancashire and knocked 66-year-old John Wilkinson off his bike.
