The Van Harten BMW S1000RR makes 210bhp and is dripping in carbon fibre

BMW S1000RR: 210bhp with no tuning!

Dutch BMW specialist Van Harten Performance has built a 210bhop S1000RR – and they’ve not even tuned the engine.

Van Harten maintain that the only tuning is the addition of a four-in-one Akrapovic exhaust system.

MCN estimates that the power increase could push the top speed to more than 190mph on a still day, based on our test data for the standard 183bhp bike (tested in less than ideal conditions).

The one-off S1000RR has a body dripping in carbon fibre and Van Harten say the bike is worth £31,000.

I checked the power

I just dynoed an s1000rr with an Arrow exhaust system on an EC997 dyno.

163.3 True HP.
Take 163.3 True hp and add 25% to get dynojet hp = about 204 djhp.
A gsxr1000 - R1 - zx10r makes about 140-145 True hp.

Could someone get 210 "djhp" on some other dyno thats trying to emulate a djhp number? Sure - all other dyno companies are just guessing, with varying degrees of luck, on how much they inflate the real hp to sort of match a dynojet.

Thereis an obvious error - the hp is listed af "B"hp - and that's "brake" horsepower and... hey... where's the brake when measuring power on a dynojet of dynojet clone?

We'll soon see.

Tuned? Not tuned? It would be an extraordinary feat to get that power from the engine, without adjustment to the mapping. But we'll see soon enough. My S1000 is having the same exhaust and filter fitted in two weeks. I'll dyno it and let you know.

It does sound fishy to me. Changing the pipe and fuelling IS tuning (to me anyway). But maybe they BLUEPRINTED the engine, which is NOT tuning.

Also, they don't state where the BHP was measured. We know a stock S1000R produces 183bhp at the wheel. If you allow 10% loss through the drivetrain etc, then that equates to over 201bhp. So, they've incresed it by LESS THAT 10 BHP.

PS. Still an awesome bike though....
