KTM’s all-new 1190 Adventure is one of the most eagerly-awaited bikes of 2013 – and one of the most guarded secrets. Until now.

Over the last two years MCN has gleaned details of the class-leading adventure machine. But now, for the first time, we have its full spec and an insider’s idea of what it’s like to ride.

German journalist Michael Pfeiffer from Motorrad magazine received an exclusive invitation from KTM to try the pre-production version and was impressed: “The steering, seat, footrests – everything fits.

“The KTM engineers have really worked their magic on the engine. The old 990cc V-twin was nervous and lumpy and is a million miles away from the RC8R derived engine.

“A smooth throttle, loads of midrange and that glorious punch punch from then engine means the Adventure R goes like stink.

“However, the V-twin is also vibey, and above 7500rpm the vibrations are noticeable.”
