Yamaha’s YZF R125 was the best selling bike in the UK for the second month running.
The single cylinder machine, with MotoGP inspired technology, was snapped up by 198 riders, helping make Yamaha the best selling brand in Britain last month.
Figures released by the MCI also reveal that 125s in general were the best selling bikes in the UK, topping five of the eight bike sales categories last month, with the Honda CBF125 M notching up 162 sales, and the Yamaha WR125R selling 29.
But the apparent popularity of 125s could not stop the bike sales market from continuing to slump. Registrations were down by 28% in August 2009, compared to August 2008. The biggest slumps were seen in the supersport and scooter categories, with both falling by more than 34%.
The MCI has attributed some of the slowdown to buyers waiting until 1 September for the most up-to-date registration plates.
However sales are still down 14.7% for the year to date compared to 2008.
