Roland Sands at Mallory Park

Legendary US bike builder Roland Sands is due to make a return to racing this weekend at the Brands Hatch round of the British Superbike series racing in the Henderson XR1200 Trophy, in partnership with Shaw Harley Davidson.

Roland landed in the UK and Monday, and is getting a flavour of the Shaws XR1200 race bike in a shake down test at Mallory Park today (Wednesday). Despite suffering from jet lag and having to acclimatise to grey, drizzly British weather Roland sounded upbeat about the test.

Speaking exclusively to MCN he said:

“Yeah man it’s going real good. I’ve clicked with the bike straight away. It’s handling really good. The brakes are real good, it steers and I’m just touching down in places.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Mallory. It’s tight and twisty and I’m getting some muscle pump. But times are good. If I can go quick here, I should be able to go quick at Brands; I’m looking forward to it.”
