Aprilia recalls more RSV4s for engine swap

Aprilia is voluntarily recalling all of the RSV4 superbikes sold in America to add to the ones from the rest of the world already under recall.
It’s understood almost 300 bikes across the world are affected in the recall. The move follows conrod failures on a handful of bikes during the launch of the RSV4-R - later attributed to a faulty batch of conrods from an outside supplier.
Aprilia has not specified the exact reason for the recall – but the firm says only 30 owners’ bikes are affected in the UK, and some bikes in dealer showrooms.
The Italian factory is keen to stress no further engine failures have occurred – the recall is to remove any potential for further problems.
The affected owners have been contacted and advised not to ride their bikes until the work has been done
Piaggio Group spokesman Phil Read told MCN: “This is purely a precautionary measure – we haven’t had a single complaint, but we are not a manufacturer that waits until a failure occurs before taking positive action.
"I hope this demonstrates Aprilia truly cares about our family of customers so we’re replacing the whole engine at our expense.”
