We take a look at some of the best classic Yamahas on offer at mcnbikesforsale.com.
’80 Yamaha XT250, £950 Four-stroke single trailie less celebrated than stoker or 500 siblings. We say: Slower and less useful too, but still cute and cheap.
’80 Yamaha RD250LC, £1795 Learner-legal version of classic stroker now appreciating too.We say: Not perfect and, like most, converted to 350, tempting though.
’81 Yamaha RD350LC, £3995 Iconic early '80s tearaway now considered true classic. We say: With, as this decent original version proves, the prices to match.
’85 Yamaha RD500LC, £9500 V4 stroker is definitive mi-'80s GP replica with skyrocketing prices. We say: Yes, £9.5k, but this 1-owner 10l-miler is about as good as they get.

Skin deep
True the LC does look good on the surface but underneath it's really not that good a bike.
I had a white/blue 350LC 30 years ago and it was fun for a couple of years but eventually the awful fuel economy and poor reliability just couldn't be overlooked and it began to spoil the fun.
Mine had a few water pump leaks, blew the crankcase oil seals a few times, destroyed it's exhaust pipe internals and needed a rebore all in less than 20,000 miles.
I crashed my LC more than every other bike I've ever owned added together, riding it was a Jekyll and Hyde thing, almost no Jekyll and loads of Hyde.
As for the XT250, back in the day I rode one a fair bit, also the XT500.
IMO the 250 is by far the better trail bike.
