Guy Martin: TV star

1 of 1

Guy Martin has become an overnight TV celebrity thanks to his BBC1 show ‘The Boat That Guy Built.’

The show was watched by 4.95million people – 22% of the viewing population in week one – and over 4.2million in week two.

And in an exclusive interview in today’s MCN, Martin reveals that he has extended his contract with the BBC.

“I’m now a BBC employee for the next three years,” he said. “I’ve got to do two more shows but I can say whether or not what they offer me is what I want to do.

“I want to do something on Julius Robert Oppenheimer – he developed the atom bomb but after the war realised what he had done and then started lecturing on physics after the war.

“And I want to do something with a Volvo Amazon (made from 1956 to 1970). I’m thinking something like a rat-rod with a roof chop and flames, using the 2.4 turbo engine out of a Volvo estate.”
