Helmet law?

friend of mine came off his bike at less than 3 miles an hour after the forks broke, spent ages in hospital has metal plates in his jaw and skull suffers migraine and has no sense of taste or smell, and that was just a light weight bicycle! and he was wearing a helmet (its not compulsory to use one on a bicycle) the safety equipment is there for a reason not just a fashion statment

Surely the helmet law shouldn't exist and it should be the riders choice. Personally I wear full gear pretty much every time I swing a leg over but if the weather is particuarly hot and or it's a low speed short run I will reduce the gear to suit. We all know the risks of hitting tarmac at any speed but what people rarely consider is how the protective gear affects other aspects of riding. I am a strong believer in the 3 degrees of separtion. In short 3 things stop you losing skin, 1. Reading of the road/ Anticipation of potential accidents. 2. Rider skill. 3. Protective gear.

If the first two are sorted you'll never need the third, conversely excessive gear causes sweating and discomfort detracting from the first two meaning an accident is more likely so when it happens most will tell the whole world how forturnate it was they had all this gear on completely oblivious that it might of been a factor in the first place. It all boils down to common sense and personal choice hence my view on the helmet law.

Tell the copper you're a Sikh? Do you need special papers to prove this? I don't know, nor really care personally, how religion works.
Can't imagine in this state they could do much in the way of probing to find out without potentially offending someone which is a big booboo.
Is there a register/membership card you carry as a Sikh?

Although... I think I'd rather wear a helmet than a turban. Can't imagine they're too cool on hot days and my helmet has vents at least.

At the end of the day they're forced to wear a sort of head attire much like we are. Except we don't offend ourselves, our religion, our god... Anyone when we arrive at our destination and take it off.
What I'm trying to get at is - We must wear it for the duration of time we're on the bike, they must wear it all the time. Stop whining.
