Mallory Park set to reopen with free gala event

Mallory Park is set to reopen this weekend with a gala event that is open, free of charge, to the public, as the Leicestershire track resurrects from its seeming demise only months ago.

The track, now managed by Complog Tyres boss Eddie Roberts and Stuart Hicken, team manager of the Buildbase BMW team, will be open this Saturday the 1st March for the public event featuring a huge collection of motorsport memorabilia.

Hicken’s Buildbase BMW team of Ryuichi Kiyonari and James Westmoreland will be unveiled for the first time, as well as a huge selection of classic and vintage vehicles from the famous track’s past, including machines ridden by Mike Hailwood and F1 champion James Hunt’s Hesketh.

The event celebrates the return of Mallory after the bankruptcy of the previous holding company, which came around after disputes over noise with local residents, something Roberts is keen to note has been thoroughly addressed.

“The idea of the open day is to get people along to see what we are doing here and reassure them we are here to run the track the way it should be run. Obviously there has been contention in the past with noise but we are going to be enforcing a zero tolerance policy on excessively loud vehicles and we are doing all we can to address noise escape issues.”

We are trying to make life easier for everyone. We’ve installed drive-by sound recording here and are establishing noise monitoring points in Kirby Mallory. When we’ve found out where the problems are we’ll do all we can to provide acoustic defence.”
