Vespa announce 'retro-futurist' 946

1 of 1

Italian scooter legends Piaggio have unveiled their latest offering from Vespa – the rather beautiful special edition 946, in both 125cc and 150cc versions

The bike will use the firm’s three-valve air-cooled engine, and is claimed to make 11.7bhp for the 125cc, with the 150cc making 13. The new engine is claimed to be ultra-modern, and features electronic fuel injection and low emissions.

The bike, and its name, is a throwback to the original 1946 Vespa, with it’s ‘retro-futurist’ styling based on the 1945 Vespa MP6 prototype.

Designer Marco Lambri told MCN “we wanted it to be beautiful but also very usable. It has a new engine and absolutely top of the range features.”

“We have designed and concieved this for what Vespa could be in the future. There’s absolutely no compromise in terms of shape or technology.”

Orders are being taken now, and only a limited number will make it to the UK.
