2003 TRIUMPH THUNDERBIRD SPORT

Owned by me from new, my first big bike. At the time I was after a modern classic & I wasn’t disappointed. MCN recently reviewed these too very favourably and it does draw some attention when I'm out & about on it. Plenty enough power, handles well & simple enough to home service if thats what you want. The Sport version is in my opinion a much nicer model than the standard version too with 10HP more (82HP), an extra disk up front & more adjustable suspension.I'm selling it due to lack of use and space. Its been serviced annually ...

Video: Triumph Thunderbird LT group test

With the arrival of Triumph’s new ‘LT’ bagger version of its Thunderbird cruiser, never before have there been so many, truly credible alternatives to the all-dominant Harley-Davidson Road King. Moto Guzzi unveiled its hugely-impressive, all-new California 1400T in 2012, while the biggest threat of all to Harley, Indian, returned in the middle of last year with its own impressive offerings. ...

Triumph Thunderbird Commander (2014-current)

The Commander is aimed more at European riders while the LT is for the American market. Essentially a naked version of the Thunderbird LT, the Commander is a hoot to ride. Thumping along, booting the heel-toe between third or fourth, merely stroking the reassuring brakes, it doesn’t get much better. The lack of screen, panniers etc make the Commander lighter ...

Triumph Thunderbird LT (2014-current)

Triumph is keen to emphasise the Thunderbird-based ‘bagger’ LT is much more than AN Other Road King clone. In fact, so much has been changed it’s effecfively an all-new bike. The result is ‘As American as apple pie’. Big, chunky levers, bar grips and switchgear are textbook US cruiser, as is stomping through the heel-toe gearchange. In fact, in virtually ...

First Ride: Triumph 2014 Thunderbird Cruisers

Triumph’s two new 2014 Thunderbird-based cruisers, the ‘Road King’ style LT bagger and the fat, reto-styled Commander, are currently being put through their paces for the first time by MCN Executive Editor Phil West in the USA. The LT is possibly the more significant of the two bikes being aimed directly at one of Harley’s best sellers in America’s biggest ...

Staff Blog: Natural order restored

I thought I was done for winter. After a couple of weeks on holiday I’d not got back into the habit of riding to work every day, thanks to my insistence that I would only ride when I wanted to, not because I felt I needed to. There’s also my reluctance to get the Triumph coated in winter cack as ...

Staff blog: Garage blues

As you’ll all, no doubt, have noticed, winter has arrived. And as you’ll all equally no doubt know, winter is a time for garages. Though I’m planning to run the Tiger Sport through as much of this year’s cold and slime as possible, there’s no getting away from the fact that, for a fair proportion of this winter the Triumph ...
