Kit review: Spada Classic 57 gloves

Spada Classic 57 gloves, £39.99Miles covered/time: 300 (dry)/two weeksWhat’s good? They’re comfortable summer gloves, idea for posing about on vintage bikes. They would suit anyone who wants some dark brown motorcycle gloves and doesn’t care about armour. What’s not? They’re not even slightly armoured. Apart from being made out of leather and featuring some light padding on the back of the ...

Kit review: Oxford Lifetime X40 Expander Tank Bag

Oxford Lifetime X40 Expander Tank Bag, £94.99Miles covered/time: 500/two weeksWhat’s good? It’s a magnetic tank bag, it’s fairly large, and can expand to become larger. It’s very tall when fully expanded and it stores a lot of stuff. What’s not? I used this for a trip to Devon. While riding one of the expansion zips went so the bag suddenly doubled ...

Jacket review: Frank Thomas Richmond

Frank Thomas Richmond Jacket, £179.99Miles covered/time: 1000 (dry)/two months What’s good? The first time I wore this I interrupted a crime (someone trying to steal Liam Marsden’s Versys) and rescued an old lady’s handbag from the middle of the road. Save cash on motorcycle jackets I don’t normally do that sort of thing, so I blame the jacket. It’s a ...

Video: Orlando Bloom on a Norton Commando 961 SE

Here is a video of a slightly wobbly Orlando Bloom riding a new Norton Commando 961 SE at the Festival of Speed. The bike seems to be a hit with the Pirates of the Caribbean star, but since all the 961 SE motorbikes have been sold the only place he can get one is on MCN's Bikes for Sale. Read ...

Kit Review: Dannisport X2 Racer leathers, £399

Dannisport X2 Racer leathers, £399 Tester: Samuel Pinney Miles covered/time: 1000/one month What’s good? I tested them on the Reclaim Wales protest rally, so I wore them constantly between 7am and 9pm. It was really hot during the day and freezing cold on the frantic ride home but they stood up pretty well. Get the best deal on motorcycle leathers ...

Product review: Kappa Anti Shock Computer Rucksack

Kappa Anti Shock Computer Rucksack, £63.75Miles covered/time: 2000/three months What’s good? It’s got a strap for laptops, but even if you aren’t a geek it’s a good solid motorbike rucksack made by people who have really thought about the design. I was wearing this when I fell off recently but it’s still going strong. It’s comfortingly solid and with a ...

Helmet review: Shark RSR2 Carbon

Shark RSR2 Carbon Helmet, £439.99 (£291.99 in the MCN Shop)Miles covered/time: 2000/two months What’s good? I crashed and I’m not any more stupid than I was before. I’m not any uglier either. Win. As you can see from the marks I landed pretty hard on the side of my head and I hardly felt it. It took quite a serious ...

Kit review: Hein Gericke Basic II rainsuit

Product: Hein Gericke Basic II rainsuit (£44.99)Miles covered/time: 1000What’s good? It packs down quite small. It is possible to put it on without taking your boots off. If you dream of walking around in a black crisp packet, then this is the suit for you. What’s not? It lets water in. In rain the zip down the front leaks. The bottom ...

Glove review: Frank Thomas X Terrain

What’s good? They are waterproof and breathable. In really hot temperatures they can get a bit uncomfortable but for British weather they are perfect. My favourite thing about these gloves is that they co-ordinate with the XT jacket and trousers. The colours are great too, black bike gear is as dated as Stovepipe hats and steam engines. What’s not? They ...
