Grahame is a man you’ll love to hate He pays under £300, fully comp, for this super-trick Ducati 748. And guess what – when he told the insurance company of all the mods they REDUCED the premium, saying " Well, you’ll definitely look after it " . The Datatool alarm and Tracker probably help too.

Butcher certainly hasn’t lived up to his name in putting this bike together. He doesn’t claim to be a rich man, but admits: " I’m old enough now to afford to do this " The work has been done for him by John Hackett – known and trusted by plenty of Ducati racers. He says: " Hackett’s just live for Ducati. They make you so welcome and do everything to help you out. In fact it’ll be going back to them for some more work over the winter – it’s going up to 853cc. Well, it’s my money and I’ll do what I like with it. " There’s not quite the real ring of truth about that last comment when he adds: " The wife’ll go mad when she sees what it’s cost but I bought this when she got a new car so that’s fair. "

Spending £10,000 on the bike may have been fair. Spending another £11,300 on top wasn’t part of the plan. " It’s what happens when you buy a Ducati, " Butcher explains.

It’s all a far cry from his last bike – an old Triumph Bonneville, years ago. Butcher is an unashamed born again biker. " I had that because I had to for transport, " he says. " This is totally different. I tested it and fell in love with it. I can be a bit snobbish about it – I don’t say I’ve got a bike, I say I’ve got a Ducati. "
