Video: MCN's R1 v GT3 at the Ring

Not content with racing his long-term-test Yamaha R1, MCN road-tester Michael Neeves took it to the Nurburgring over the Easter weekend.

Watch the video as Michael's brother Ben follows him in a Porche GT3. They managed a pretty hot 8:48 lap despite bank-holiday traffic and two accidents.

Dunno what Clarkson was smoking that day, I made a sub 10min lap in a 2001 BMW 320d for god sake, on my second lap lol, fair play, I had run hundreds of simulator laps, and watched lots of onboard laps before driving it for real :P Truth is that Porsche would have murdered that bike in the bendy bits - given some balls of steel and bin it or win it attitude......all the adverse cambers and bumps being the main reason. I love my bike obviously, and maybe gonna take the bike to the ring next time :D Was really awesome to see the acceleration of the bike compared to a decent car on the "open road" so to speak.

R1 V GT3

Compared to bikes a decent car is a lot better on the brakes and has a higher cornering speed. I still would not swap two wheels for four though. Excelent video.
