Video: Britain's leaning monkey trike

A few people have had a go at leaning trike prototypes but few make it past the drawing design stage. But here we have video of a completely working and road registered prototype that has been developed thanks to British inventor Mike Hobbs and engineering and technology consultants Ricardo.

Using a monkey bike as the canvas for the scaled-down concept the bike is fully working.

Mike Savage, Chief Programme Engineer for Ricardo, told MCN, “This bike retains the purity and steering of a motorcycle front end, with a special patented mechanism that allows the bike to tilt in a completely natural way, but drive to two rear wheels.

”Its great fun and very easy to ride as it behaves like a normal bike. There is no powered tilted mechanism.”

The tilting mechanism doesn’t actually use any hydraulic mechanism or other power assistance.
