Livingstone’s advice for motorcyclists who want to ride in bus lanes: vote Boris

London Mayor Ken Livingstone has some advice for motorcyclists who want to ride in London bus lanes: vote for Boris Johnson.

Livingstone issued the advice when questioned by a motorcyclist at a conference on London transport yesterday (Tuesday).

The rider told MCN: “He said he would not be allowing motorcycles into bus lanes and that if I wanted that, I would have to vote for Boris.”

Johnson said last week he would open the capital’s bus lanes to motorcycles, a move which could trigger local authorities elsewhere to follow suit.

He accused Livingstone of suppressing a report which states accidents for all road users fell on London routes where the move has been trialled.

The report, which was leaked to MCN, said there was “a safety benefit for all vulnerable road users” including cyclists and pedestrians.

According to our man at the conference, Livingstone refused to set a publication date for the report, claiming it “needs more work”.
