The price of the Harley-Davidson XR1200 will be increased by 5%

Harley-Davidson has confirmed price increases of up to 10% across its motorcycle range from May 1.

The Touring, Dyna and Softail families are hit the hardest with increases average 10% - the range-topping FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic now comes in at an eye-watering £18,350. The iconic Fat Boy now costs £14,530, and the Rocker C stands at £15,460.

The Sportster, VRSC V-Rod and XR1200 families increase around 5%, meaning the entry-level XL883 is now £5540. The new V-Rod Muscle is £12,950, and the Night Rod Special is now £12,880. See your local dealer for more details on the price rises, or call 0870 904 1450.

How much has the pound dropped against the dollar over the past year, 25%? Something around that figure I would guess. The fact that HD are only increasing their prices by 10% just shows how overpriced the damned things were to start with. (IMHO, of course)

As for the 2% increase from other manufacturers? I dunno. Maybe if they increased prices to keep pace with currency fluctuations they know they'd sell no bikes. Harley buyers have already shown they'll pay through the nose for the badge, so HD have got an advantage.

The motorcycle industry is probably being hit harder than the car industry right now, and maybe we'll see one or two go bust, who knows?

Yeh!! I guess you're right they do need to make some money back because of the weakness of the pound- but why has harley seen the need to increase by 10% when other manufacturers, including other American motorcycle manufacturers only increase by a maximum of 2%. No one minds a realistic increase but they are taking the p..... when they increase by the rip-off amount set by Harley USA. This reminds me of the day in the 1980's when Willie G (head of harley) and his consortium bought back the HD company back and then began to complain to Ronald Reagan (USA President at that time) about the issue relating to Japanese Motorcycle imports affecting the sales of American made bikes. It was as a result of those discussion/s that heavy restrictions were placed on anyone importing motorcycles into the USA for a limited time to prop-up the ailing American market. It appears that Harley are at it yet again but in another guise. I only hope that the UK, European and Japanese manufacturers are laying the same extortionate increases on the dealers across the pond. I say this because - 'What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander' Fairs fair!! What do you think??

As the pound sterling is currently worth fuck all, surely a price increase on any imported item is only to be expected?

World wide financial crash, recession, credit crunch, redundancy, solvency/bankruptcy, personal debt, house price crash, loan and credit card refusals by the bucket load AND to add fuel to the fire -Harley Davidson USA decide it's time to increase the price of their bikes to the Uk by an amazing and mind-blowing 10% and also to limit the availability of new stock to the UK. I have owned numerous Harley's over the years and I love the bikes, the name, the social side of HOG chapters, and everything that goes with owning a harley. I have always been proud to ride a Harley (I also like numerous other models of bikes that are not harley's). And yet - I say this for the first time that I am so disappointed that Harley Davidson USA for whatever reason (known to them alone) have taken this decision. After all, Victory motorcycles decided to drop their prices when the credit crunch hit, other manufacturers increased their models only by a maximum of 2%.

Is it simply greed? Is it down to panic profit making? Is it to reduce the number of Dealerships throughout UK and Europe? Is it to compensate for the reduced sales of harley's in USA at the expense of UK and Europe?

Whatever the reason might be I believe they have over-priced their models to the point that the ordinary working customer will either struggle to buy a harley, look to other manufacturers or resist the temptation to buy. It may also mean that existing harley riders will put off the next purchase of a new harley or may purchase a second hand or other make of motorcycle.

Is this going to prove to be the demise of Harley Davidson USA as we know it and have come to love with a passion? Are harley davidson USA going to recompense the loyalty of their customers when the current financial climate improves or will it all be about the PROFIT??

Unfortunately, not only has HD increased the price by 10% but it won't be long before the VAT decrease which the UK government introduced is back to the original rate and further increase the price of the bikes. What a sad day this is for harley riders, 'would be' harley riders and the motorcycle industry!!

Rip-off

HD currently have a deal going, but not for the UK, whereby you can trade your 2007-on Sportster for a Big Twin, the trade-in price being what you originally paid! Not a bad deal, but sadly, not for us here on Treasure Island as we are known by vehicle manufacturers!

I am about to trade up to a Dyna Glide, but will only buy at the current price - if HD wont sell me one, then the money stays in my pocket until they return to Planet Earth.
