Peugeot has made the Speedfight 3 better handling, better equipped and more stylish than it’s predecessor.
The Speedfight 3 features bigger wheels, bigger forks, a longer wheelbase and ergonomics redesigned for more comfort. The styling is all-new, and Peugeot is appealing to teenage customers by offering an optional sound system!
MCN has ridden the Speedfight 3 - this is our verdict: “The bigger 13” wheels make it feel more planted, the new 34mm forks are an instant improvement and the new, radially-mounted front brake is stonking. Both Euro 3 compliant two-stroke engines also felt fairly nippy, although I preferred the liquid-cooled version. It sounded sweet and revved a further 500rpm over its air-cooled stable mate – essential extra power on a 50!
“In addition, the old chassis left taller riders feeling cramped so the designers have added a whopping 120mm to the overall length – not that you’d know just by looking at it. They’ve also added 30mm to the wheelbase, altered the floorboards and re-sculpted the leg shields. It was plenty roomy enough for me, at 5’10”.
“The seat has been reshaped, and the fuel tank repositioned to lower the centre of gravity and help gain storage space beneath the seat. The result is there’s now enough space to accommodate a full face lid – or the optional Peugeot stereo system which plugs into the 12v socket and includes an iPod dock, sub and amp. The speakers mount into the dummy air intakes on the side of the rear panels. It also has handlebar-mounted controls. Cool or what?
“Three versions will be on offer - the first, arriving mid July, is the basic, most economical, air-cooled, two-stroke 50, which also features a drum rear brake. A higher-performance liquid-cooled 50, with front and rear discs and a rear remote gas shock, will follow and there will also be a special edition, black RS model featuring polished rims, red callipers, and extra styling details.”
