  • BMW F800R new naked middleweight
  • Superb parallel twin engine
  • Likely to cost £5855

A sneak ride on a pre-production BMW F800R shows the bike could be a class leader in the competitive middleweight market.

MCN has spoken to a foreign journalist who got a quick blast on the new naked machine in southern Germany – he only managed a few miles but it was enough to get some early riding impressions.

The naked F800R uses the same 85bhp 798cc parallel twin as the BMW F800S and F800GS but has none of the bodywork, gets some upright handlebars and the non-symmetrical lights from the bigger K1300R.

Our man told us: “The bike feels lovely and light and with the raised bars this is only made more apparent – the bike is so easy to move around at low speeds.”

Riding impressions are positive but the only downside to the F800R is going to the cost in the UK which could be £1300 more than immediate rivals like the £4500 Suzuki Gladius.

Read the full first impression in the April 15 issue of MCN.
