Double Glory For Yamaha Technicians

A motorcycle technician from Alf England Motorcycles, in Bedworth, has won the Yamaha Technician Grand Prix for the second time.

Nigel Cartwright from Tamworth won the bi-annual event designed to test practical technical skills and theoretical knowledge.

Cartwright won a new Yamaha T-Max scooter worth £6,000, while his Alf England colleague, Robert Berry from Nuneaton scooped a runners-up place receiving a £500 voucher for Snap On Tools.

Cartwright previously won the competition in 2005, and was awarded a Yamaha YZF-R1 worth nearly £10,000.

He then travelled to Holland where he finished third in the European finals, followed by a trip to Yamaha headquarters in Japan where he achieved fifth place in the International event.

Nigel now hopes to compete in the European and International events again and improve on his previous performances.

Alf England is the first dealership to have two technicians in the final, which is contested by six finalists.

The Final itself lasted a full day and consisted of a very tough internet-based question paper, followed by six separate practical exercises, testing the technicians’ problem solving skills and technical knowledge on a range of Yamaha Motorcycles.
