In this week’s issue of MCN, on sale Wednesday 11th February, MCN Road Tester Trevor Franklin braves the snow and takes the new Triumph Bonneville SE for a spin. Here’s some more pictures and close-up shots of the new 70’s style retro roadster.

The new Bonneville SE’s black paint job and mag wheels pay homage to the original T140D Special Edition Meriden Bonneville, which in turn took inspiration from the Yamaha XS650 Special.

Based on Triumph’s standard Bonneville, the SE isn’t purely a styling exercise. Seven-spoke mag wheels are lighter which reduces unsprung weight, the suspension has been revised and it also boasts a useful tacho and lower seat height.

Bonneville SE clocks

Retro-style clocks
Simple chrome and black clocks complete the retro feel from the saddle. The Bonneville SE has a handy tachometer too, not present on the standard version.

 

Bonneville SE badge

Raised tank badge
Carrying on the retro theme, the Bonneville SE also features classy raised ‘Triumph’ badges on it’s 16 litre fuel tank. These aren’t present on the standard Bonnie.

 

Bonneville SE mag wheels

Stylish mag wheels
Seven-spoke 17inch mag wheels really complete the 70’s look. They’re also lighter than the wire-spoked wheels on the standard Bonneville, reducing unsprung weight and making the SE more nimble.

 

Bonneville SE lights

Old-school lights
Retro rear light and indicators complete the bike’s rear end. Only the modern style numberplate gives the game away.

 

Bonneville SE single disc

Single disc rear brake
Just like the 1970s original T124D, the Bonneville SE gets a single rear disc brake. Although this time around it gets a 255mm disc with Nissin two-piston caliper. Up front there’s a 310mm disc with another 2-piston Nissin caliper.
