MCN gets a world first ride on the first road-registered fuel cell bike - a Suzuki Burgman with a 220 mile range.
But is Hydrogen fuel cell power the future? Read the full story in this week's MCN, on sale Wednesday 10 February.

"Not a lot of prospect of batteries increasing in their range significantly"
I think that is argueable. There is currently tons of money being invested into improving batteries "signigicantly". Some of the chemistries under development such as lithium-air and various lithium sulpher combinations could increase energy densities up to 10-fold.
Even disregarding major breakthroughs, batteries are improving on a yearly basis and are much more efficient and affordable than fuel cells. Not to mention they are available for purchase today.
Not to say the fuel cell scooter isn't an impressive achievement, it is.

Dr V, its early days yet. This is a viable alternative fuel for the future, one of a number that can meet the demands of future trasnport.
Any manufactured item is not green and never will be. The "same" amount of resourses would be used to make each bike and the platinum-catalyst would be much much less than the amount of lithium batteries required for a prius or tesla. And considering it does not produce CO2 or burn fossil fuel (the hydrogen could be harvested from sea water) how can you say its more damaging than a normal bugman, nonsense.
Stop falling back on topgear and their analysis of the prius, that is completely different to the full cell bugman on test here.
New things always cost more (blueray) at the begining but you don't need to switch straight away. Im sure there will be plenty of choices.
Im not a green person, far from it,but I can see the potential of cell.

Key points to consider
*How much does it cost to buy?
*Where in the UK can you refill it - and how much does fuel cost?
*Is it really green? It may only give off heat and water but how much fossil fuels have been used to make the bike, fuel cells and most importantly, the hydrogen that powers it. Add it all up and it is actually less green than a standard Burghman. Same point for the Prius and other hybrids, through the course of their manufacture and limited life period they are actually less eco-friendly than buying a dirty old diesel and running it into the ground.
So my conclusion? If you go for the petrol option you are actually a greener person than someone who opts for this one (I have done my research on this - promise!). A greener option? How about developing the diesel engine motorcycle idea - that way you can run it on chip-fat, bio fuels or plain old diesel, and just think of the torque that diesel engines produce!?
