First rides & tests
24 March 2010 09:00
Five miles was all it took for MCN's road testers to agree the new 2010 Kawasaki Versys is fun to ride. 100 miles later it was clear the new bike should be just as popular as the 2009 Versys.
But is the new Versys the best middleweight do-everything bike available? Watch the video to see it take on the BMW F650GS and Suzuki V-Strom.

Vstrom
This is a fair enough review. All three of these are very good bikes. I've been riding a 2008 Vstrom 650 since last year. I love it. I thought I was going to buy a Versys, but 2 things put me off. First, I thought the build quality on the Versys a bit less the the Vstrom, and second was the seat height. I'm 5'11" with a 31 " inseam, and the Versys is just too tall for me and in-town riding. I really like to own the BMW, but the price is out of my range. That said, I have nothing but praise for the Vstrom. It handles very well, and the power is ealily as much as I want. I've taken my bike on fire roads in the mountains, and that is a much off-roading as I'd recommend.
Most Important Upgrade: Givi tall windscreen with Madstad bracket.

Chaps, calm it. Were we there when the video was shot? Nope. How do we know what goes behind making a video? How many of us can honestly say they would be instantly likeable and presentable with a camera and microphone shoved up their nostrils?
One rider is a 250cc racer, one is a retired endurance man and the other is a Hornet 600 owner. And I know for a fact these guys are so good at road and track riding. I couldn't touch 'em if i had a thousand and they were on 600s. Lines always look so different from a camera or video camera lens. Maybe that's why they ride close, take different lines etc. Wheelies: what's yer beef? Never had any fun on a bike before? Bet you're part of the neighborhood watch/parish council twats. The answer is simple: shut the fack up!

Tires and comfort
If I'm gonna take a light off-road trip then V Strom could be better then the others. DL 650 versatile tires are also better under a storm because of the bigger grips. The Versys is not availeable in Brazil yet but it looks the best choise for urban use or short trips. To get on for long trips Suzuki is in my opinion the more usefull and comfortable bike in this comparative.
