Alpinestars Tech Road Gore-Tex gloves (now superseded by 365 GTX,
£139.95)
Miles covered/time: 2000/one year
What's good? Gore-Tex lining means these have proved waterproof and, unlike some gloves I've tried in the past, the dye hasn't leached out of them onto my fingers after they've received a soaking.
Degree of protection provided by the beefy, race-proven knuckle protection system and padded palms is confidence-inspiring.
Warm enough to be worn as a winter glove.
What's not? Despite being extra large, they are a very tight fit and are still a squeeze to get on after 2000 miles of use.
Dual Velcro strap-and-flap closure system may improve safety, but makes them a fiddle to do up.
A bit fat and sausagey for fine degrees of throttle control not a glove for summer use.
The 365 GTX glove which superseded these is much thinner and a better all-year-round glove.
