Berik G-8087 gloves, £109.99
Miles covered/time: 3000 miles/eight months
What’s good? Feel is good – the finger seams on the outside make them flexible. The wrist strap Velcros onto the same patch as the cuff strap, so once the cuff is on they’re very secure.
What’s not? They didn’t protect me in a crash. Another rider broke down in front of me going through Knickerbrook at Oulton, and I hit the back of him, came off the bike and got my right hand trapped between a part of the bike (probably the handlebar and the floor.
The finger leather burst open, and the impact burst my finger open and dislodged the finger nail from the nail bed (it’s since fallen off). It’s a big ask from a glove, but the leather tore rather than wore through, and the plastic finger armour didn’t do anything to dissipate the impact.
They just didn’t match the same level of protection I got from my Berik suit in the same crash.
