New government helmet safety ratings

Safety ratings for 28 crash helmets have been unveiled by government testers.

The helmets have been tested in the Department for Transport’s Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme (SHARP).

The news is good if you own a Bell, whose helmet scored the maximum five, but bad if you own an RST PC1S, which scored just one. 

The 28 new results bring the number of helmets with a SHARP rating to 125. Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick said: “If all riders wore the safest helmets available 50 lives could be saved each year so I am delighted to announce these new SHARP ratings.”
