MCN Biking Britain survey: Top ten Flip-front helmets under £300

Almost 12,000 readers have completed MCN’s Biking Britain survey, since it started in April. Here are your findings on the top ten flip-front helmets.

1. Shark Evoline, £274.99 - £284.99
SHARP RATING: 4
The Evoline has a multi-component internal shock absorber with different densities like the full-face Shark lids, a centrally controlled interior anti-scratch sun shield and an external anti-scratch demister visor. The chinstrap is an exclusive and patented ‘Tech-Move’ system, the liner is removable and washable and you get a five year warranty. The shell is thermoplastic.

2. Airoh Mathisse RS, £99.95 - £184.95,
SHARP RATING: 2
The thermoplastic shell is available in two different sizes and comes fitted with an integrated flip-down sun visor. The main visor is scratch resistant, the liner and cheek pads all come out and can be washed and the chin strap is a quick release system. The chin bar on this lid can also be removed to go for the full-on tin-pot look.

3. Airoh Warrior, £119.95,
SHARP RATING: Not tested
The Warrior features a thermoplastic shell, a visor that’s treated to be anti-scratch both inside and out and a sanitised internal liner that’s also breathable. The chin strap is a quick release system, there are air intakes on the visor, the chin guard and the front of the main shell as well as adjustable extractors on the reverse.

4. Caberg Trip, £99.99,
SHARP RATING: 5

The Trip comes with a double anti-turbulence nape shield, rain protection rims and a flip-down sun visor. The visor is scratch resistant, the lining is sanitized, the shell itself is thermosplastic and the chin strap is quick release. The Coolmax liner can be removed, as can the quick release visor and the nose shield.

5. Nolan N103, £264.99 - £279.99,
SHARP RATING: 4
The Nolan N103 is the result of the experience gained with the N100, N101 and N102. It has an internal adjustable VPS sunscreen, flip front chinguard with elliptical rotation trajectory, the Jet Stream Wing crown venting system and Microlock retention system used on most Nolans and a limited 5 year warranty. The shell is composite fibre.

6. AGV Longway, £119.99 - £129.99,
SHARP RATING: 4

The Longway is AGV’s only flip-up lid, but this thermoplastic still helmet gets a four star SHARP rating. It comes in one shell size only, but it does have front air intakes and rear extractors, a removable and washable lining and an anti-scratch visor. The chin strap buckle is quick-release, too.

7. Caberg Justissimo GT, £149.99 - £169.99,

The Justissimo GT can have Caberg’s Bluetooth system built into the lid. It has a sanitized liner that is removable, a scratch resistant visor and a quick release chin strap. The lid is aerodynamically wind-tunnel tested and comes with an open-face conversion kit for the thermoplastic shell. It’s got a double-visor system like the Trip, and rain protection rims.

8. Airoh SV55-S, £159.95,
SHARP RATING: Not tested
The SV55-S has a thermoplastic external shell, an anti-scratch visor, an integrated sun visor and a breathable comfort liner that is fully removable and washable. There are two front vents on the shell with visor ventilation too and vents in the chin guard. The helmet is also Bluetooth capable with an upgrade.

9. Nolan N102, £209.99,
SHARP RATING: 4
The Nolan N102 has the new DUAL ACTION opening system. Positioned in the centre of the chin guard, it can be opened with just one hand. The Dual Action mechanism prevents the chin guard from opening accidentally, thus granting maximum safety. It also has a Microlock retention system, sanitized liner, Jet Stream Wing ventilation system, and Nolan’s fog resistant system. The shell is made from composite fibre.

10. Shark Openline, £209.99 - £219.99,
SHARP RATING: 3

The shell made from injected thermoplastic resin and it features the new concept of multi elements shock absorbing EPS. There’s a side operated integrated anti-scratch sunshield and a coated anti-scratch and anti-fog. The flip-front chinbar has a metal locking system, the chinstrap is quick release and you get a fully removable and washable interior in micro-fibre fabric liner.
