Nitro's entry-level Aikido full-face helmet has scored the maximum five stars in the government's SHARP safety ratings.

The £70 helmet was one of only three lids to score five stars in the lastest results, which included 27 helmets.

Susan Lloyd, marketing director of Nitro's UK importers Lloyd Group, said: "This doesn't come as a surprise to us, but it does enforce our brand values, in that you don't need to sacrifice safety if you're buying kit on a budget. I like to think we're making safety affordable.

"The SHARP tests are a good thing because they're independent tests which the buying public can't ignore. Giving more information to the consumer on which to base their buying decision can never be a bad thing."
