Each week MCN prints the latest results from its MCN Biking Britain survey – results influenced by almost 12,000 readers who’ve told us what their favourite kit and bikes are. This week we’re looking at high-end two-piece leather suits.

Alpinestars has patented the design of the Octane, a 1.2-1.4mm thick full-grain leather suit. It features a perforated front panel for better ventilation, stitched die-cut logos, CE armour and a pocket for a back protector.

3. Scott Venom, £410
This is the same leather suit that Scott produces for police force motorcyclists. It’s made from 1.2-1.4mm cowhide, has Knox CE armour at the shoulders, elbows and knees and also back protection. Scott will make you a made-to-measure version made for 30% more than this off-the-peg price.

4. Hideout Xtreme, £1050
The Xtreme is custom leathers specialist Hideout’s top of the range two-piece. It’s made from ultra-thick cowhide and Keprotech stretch panels. All the impact areas are CE armour protected and for an additional £410 you can get the suit made to measure at Hideout’s Saffron Walden HQ.

5. Hein Gericke Oxan II Sheltex, £499.98
Made from 1.2mm thick premium-grain cowhide that’s claimed water-resistant. The suit also has a membrane that’s claimed breathable, windproof and waterproof. It has a multiple main seam construction and CE armour fitted at the knees, elbows and shoulders.
