What’s good: Lots actually. I’m usually sceptical about day-to-day textile jackets, usually finding things that don’t work, fit or annoy (which is why I kept on using my old one for a good five years) but so far I’m impressed with the Verona. It’s got: classic, understated style (so much so that, off-bike, it looks like a casual rather than biker jacket).

There’s also: decent fit/length, a snug but fiddle-free neck, easy one-zip operation, a warm-enough (but not too hot either) detachable thermal liner and enough of the right pockets in the right places. It’s impressive value, too, I reckon.

What’s not: Not much. I haven’t yet worn this Alpinestars jacket in a downpour so can’t vouch for its waterproof-ness (but it’s definitely showerproof) though, to be honest, it’s not built to withstand hosing it down anyway.

Oh, and the cuffs annoy very slightly by not quite always fitting inside my gloves, although that’s more likely a quirk of my arms/gloves/Honda Crossrunner riding position.
