What’s good? Sat navs are good for finding a tricky address or location, or if you have to be somewhere fast, but there’s nothing like a map for holiday riding.

Laying a huge map out in front of you at your hotel breakfast table before a day’s ride is all part of the excitement of the trip.

You can see which roads you want to ride and plot your route before you set off, and that’s something that you just can’t do with a more direct, but sterile sat nav system.

What’s not? These maps won’t help you in town, so a sat nav is better and they’re a pain to fold up into the top of a tankbag, especially if the aperture is small like mine.
