What’s good: I missed this biography when it was originally released in hardback in 2009, but now it’s available in paperback.

It’s a book for committed Jefferies fans and it tracks his life through childhood and on to the beginning of his road racing career - starting club racing in 1990, through to Superteens, Supersport, Superbike, the Speed Triple series and even a brief stint in 500 GPs in 1993. It goes on to document his introduction to road racing and his meteoric ride to success at the TT.

It sensitively deals with the crash that claimed his life on the evening of Thursday 26 May 2003 on the Isle of Man and the resulting shake-up of safety measures at the TT.

What’s not: There’s something missing when reading this book and I think it’s the continual knowledge that there’s not going to be a fairytale ending.
