What’s good: Standard braided brake hose kits are all very well for standard fitment brake hoses, but if you need a custom size, where do you go?

I needed a full hose to replace the part hose/part metal pipe front brake line on my BMW R100GS after acquiring a disc upgrade kit which changes the caliper position and renders the standard fork mount for the (non-flexible) lower part useless.

Silverstone-based motorsport supplier Pete Woolford provided a rapid and very affordable answer. Using the stock hose as a guide for the banjo size etc, he hand-made me a replacement in about 10 minutes while I waited.

He was also able to answer various queries I had about fitting the line, such as explaining how to take advantage of his special swivelling crimp fittings(!). Of course you don’t have to visit in person – you can just send in your old hose or its dimensions and get the shiny new kit in the post a few days later.

All the usual colours and fitting sizes are available. The price (including stainless fittings and new copper washers), came to about a fiver less than what two major brake hose specialists currently charge on their websites for a (shorter) standard front hose for a 100GS.
