What’s good: Sports bikes, by their very track-honed, performance missile nature, aren’t practical. BMW knew this and went to great lengths to design luggage specific to the BMW S1000RR I am running as my long term test bike this year.

The five-litre tankbag is an official BMW accessory and works brilliantly. It has two metal hooks that clip into the tank-mounted rack and a plastic clip at the front of the fuel tank cover.

Through all of the awful weather is has been completely watertight and takes enough bits and bobs to make long distances much easier.

My iPhone sits in the sculpted and waterproof slot inside the lid where you can see it and even use it thanks to the clever plastic cover.

What’s not: At £130 (including the mounting rack) this is not cheap but it is great quality. If you need to power your phone for battery-destroying satnav apps then getting the power cord into the bottom of the phone is a pain as there isn’t enough clearance.
