Woman rider, first bike, 1000cc??

I'm doing my DAS at the moment, enjoying it, and considering what bike to buy. My instructor recommended, since I want to do touring and long distances on motorways, that I get nothing smaller than a 900-1000cc. However, I have a gravel drive, and a ramp up to a single garage, and I'm concerned about manouvering that sort of weight.A friend recommends a BMW F800, with a low seat.
